Communities We Serve

DNT Masonry is headquartered in Yacolt, Washington and serves homeowners and businesses within a 50-mile radius across both Washington and Oregon. Here is a detailed look at the communities we work in.

Washington State Service Area

Our primary Washington service area covers all of Clark County and extends into surrounding counties. Clark County is home to more than 500,000 residents and includes the cities of Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, La Center, and Woodland. The county has experienced significant residential growth over the past decade, with new subdivisions and custom home construction driving strong demand for quality masonry services. We also serve Cowlitz County communities including Kelso and Longview, as well as Skamania County and portions of Lewis County.

Yacolt, our home base, is a small community located approximately 30 miles northeast of Portland, Oregon. Situated at the base of the Cascade Range foothills, Yacolt and surrounding areas like Amboy and Chelatchie feature rural and semi-rural properties where masonry retaining walls, chimney construction, and stone veneer installations are especially popular. The terrain in this region is hilly and wooded, which means retaining walls are not just an aesthetic feature — they are a structural necessity for managing grades, preventing erosion, and protecting foundations.

Oregon Service Area

Across the Columbia River, we serve the greater Portland metropolitan area including Portland proper, Gresham, Milwaukie, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Oregon City, Beaverton, Tigard, and Tualatin. The Portland metro area represents one of the largest housing markets in the Pacific Northwest, with a mix of historic homes requiring masonry restoration and new construction incorporating stone and brick elements. We also serve communities along the I-5 corridor including Wilsonville, Canby, and Woodburn, as well as the Hood River and Columbia Gorge area for select projects.

Portland's older neighborhoods — including Irvington, Laurelhurst, Alameda, and the West Hills — feature many homes built in the early 1900s with original brick chimneys, brick foundations, and decorative masonry that require periodic maintenance and restoration. Our team has extensive experience matching historic mortar colors and brick styles to preserve the character of these vintage homes while bringing them up to current structural and safety standards.

Travel & Scheduling

For projects within our core 50-mile radius, there are no additional travel charges. For projects beyond this radius but within a reasonable driving distance, we may add a modest mobilization fee to cover the extra travel time and fuel costs. We are happy to discuss this during the initial consultation so there are no surprises. We schedule most projects within two to four weeks of estimate approval, depending on the season and project complexity. Emergency chimney repairs and urgent structural issues are prioritized and can often be addressed within days.

How Our Estimate Process Works

From the moment you reach out until the day your project is complete, here is exactly what to expect when working with DNT Masonry.

Step 1 — Initial Contact: When you fill out the contact form above or call us directly, we will respond within one business day. During this initial conversation, we will ask basic questions about your project — what type of work you need, the approximate size and scope, your preferred timeline, and the location of the property. This helps us prepare for the on-site visit and bring relevant material samples or reference photos.

Step 2 — Free On-Site Estimate: We will schedule a convenient time to visit your property and assess the project in person. During the site visit, we measure the work area, evaluate existing conditions (such as the state of your chimney, foundation, or retaining wall), discuss material options, and answer any questions you have. There is no cost and no obligation for this visit — it is part of our standard service. Most site visits take 30 to 60 minutes depending on project complexity.

Step 3 — Written Proposal: Within two to three business days after the site visit, we provide a detailed written estimate. Our proposals include a complete scope of work description, material specifications and quantities, a line-item cost breakdown covering materials, labor, equipment, and permits, the projected timeline from start to completion, payment terms and schedule, and warranty information. We encourage you to compare our estimate with other contractors. We are confident in our pricing because it reflects the true cost of quality materials, skilled labor, and professional service.

Step 4 — Approval & Scheduling: Once you approve the estimate, we schedule a start date and order materials. Depending on the season and material availability, most projects begin within two to four weeks of approval. We will confirm the schedule with you at least one week in advance and provide a contact number for the lead mason on your project.

Step 5 — Construction: On the first day, our crew arrives on time, sets up a clean work area, and begins the project according to the approved scope. We protect your landscaping, walkways, and adjacent surfaces with drop cloths and plastic sheeting. Our team cleans up daily — we do not leave a mess for you to deal with. Throughout the project, your lead mason keeps you updated on progress and addresses any questions or concerns immediately.

Step 6 — Completion & Walkthrough: When the work is finished, we schedule a final walkthrough with you to inspect every detail. We point out key features of the completed work, explain any maintenance recommendations, and make sure you are completely satisfied before we consider the project done. We also provide written care instructions for your new masonry so you know how to maintain it for maximum longevity.

How to Prepare for Your Masonry Project

A little preparation goes a long way. Here are practical tips to help your project go smoothly from day one.

Clear the work area: Before our crew arrives, please move any patio furniture, potted plants, vehicles, or other items away from the work zone. For chimney projects, clear a path from the driveway to the chimney location. For retaining wall projects, remove any landscaping or debris along the wall line. This allows our team to set up efficiently and protects your belongings from dust and debris.

Provide access: Ensure that our crew can access the work area without obstruction. If the project is in the backyard, make sure gate access is available. For projects requiring scaffolding, we need a minimum of four feet of clearance around the work area. If your property has a security system, alarm codes, or locked gates, please make arrangements for access on the scheduled workdays.

Notify your neighbors: Masonry work involves cutting, mixing, and occasional hammering. While we keep noise to a minimum and work within normal business hours (typically 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM weekdays), it is courteous to let your immediate neighbors know about the upcoming project. This is especially important for chimney work involving scaffolding near property lines.

Protect interior spaces: For chimney and fireplace projects, we recommend covering furniture and flooring near the fireplace with drop cloths. While we take extensive precautions to contain dust and debris, masonry work can generate fine particles. Closing interior doors to adjacent rooms and covering air vents in the immediate work area provides additional protection.

Plan for pets and children: Construction sites are not safe for unsupervised pets or children. Mortar, tools, scaffolding, and heavy materials present hazards. Please keep pets secured and children supervised away from the work area for the duration of the project. Our crew will maintain a safe perimeter, but your cooperation ensures everyone stays safe.

Know your permits: For most structural masonry work in Washington and Oregon, building permits are required. DNT Masonry handles the permit application process on your behalf when required, and permit fees are included in our estimates. However, some homeowners' associations (HOAs) have additional architectural review requirements. If your property is in an HOA community, check with your association before approving the project to avoid delays. We are happy to provide plans and specifications that your HOA may require for review.
